Sue Knights

Leeds NORTH EAST
Local Council Election Candidate for Alwoodley

BIOGRAPHY

I am a voluntary worker, school governor at three schools, chair of governors little london community primary school, vice chair governors Alwoodley primary school, governor north west silc.

I sit on a number of boards including admissions, children's scrutiny board and governors forum.

I am a trustee for People in Action UK, Leeds.

I have worked in retail management, elderly care and factory work.

My main voluntary work is to raise awareness of people with disabilities especially children.  I fundraise for many groups in order to improve the life outcomes for these young and vulnerable people.

Besides my children, I would say my greatest achievement was to set up a market place event in Leeds where all agencies both voluntary and statutory are all together under one roof available to give vital information and support to families who have a disabled member or a member with additional needs.

This was set up to avoid the ping pong effect of having to be sent round services to find the right one.  This idea was adopted in other cities on the back of the Leeds success.

I decided to stand as a councillor in order to be able to help people as a lot of the issue families were approaching me about were housing and benefits and by being a councillor I could help more people with a variation of worries.

I did not believe I was political but the Liberal Democrats were fighting for the same things as myself and had views that I approved of.

It was the passion and beliefs of my local councillors and other Lib Dem councillors which made me belief the Lib Dems were the party for me.

I wish to meet people and help bring change for them without having to approach my local councillor who in turn has had to approach councillors Feldman to clear being able to help families in the Alwoodley area.

Alwoodley is not only the affluent leafy suburbs it also serves three council estates where unemployment, drugs problems and crime are the norm.

I want to show the people of Alwoodley that the Lib/Dems care and will help to bring about change to their community and narrow the gap between the leafy suburbs and the less affluent parts of the area
